The Rookie #22
March 19, 2007 _ Scott Sigler

Quentin saved Don Pine’s ass without revealing Pine’s gambling habbit - or the fact that he threw games as the Kraken’s QB. This double episode sees the Kranes square off against the Bigg Diggers in Week Seven, and the first-lace Glory Warpigs in Week Eight. The Krakens must win both games to make the playoffs.

Hey grammar tard… “and the first-lace Glory Warpigs”… now a spelling tard or a freudian slip?

Just me, whoring for The Man

Ben

Great episode Scott, sounds like Quentin needs to work on the short passing game eh? keep ‘em coming!

ED

I dig the rookie, but i don’t follow human football…

can anyone explain what a “secondary” is?

thanks.

Kurt

Just when you think Barnes has learned his lesson… ;)

Scott Sigler

ED:

The “secondary” refers to defensive backs. So if you look at the line of scrimmage, the offensive line faces the defensive line. Behind the defensive line are the linebackers, usually two or three players. Behind them is the “secondary,” which are “defensive backs,” guys whose primary responsibility is defending the pass. The “secondary” consist of cornerbacks, who play out on the far side, a strong safety, who plays fairly close behind the linebackers, and a safety, called such because he is the last line of defense.

Rich

Included in that is the possibility of extra DB’s, i.e. pulling a linebacker and throwing an extra corner or safety type into the game to further defend the pass. In that same breath, DB’s can be pulled in favor of a run heavy defense, loosening the secondary with 3, in favor of an extra D lineman, or linebacker for that matter putting “8 in the box” to defend against the run, like what the Krackens did against the Orbiting Death to stop Jew Tweedy.

Flashman

The best freudian slips are made out of lace.

I liked how when Quentin started cursing after throwing the big interception, he sounded like Scott Sigler getting huffy when the junkies dis him.

Stuart

Great Episode, but do you think you might update the Galactic Football League site. It’s now 4 weeks behind the story.

Shannon

Scott, thanks for the info there on secondary. I kept thinking “secondary” meant the second string! Now I understand much better.

Chris

Hey Scott great story…a quick note Summer Brooks is from the Kick-ass Mystic Ninjas not the Mystic Kick-ass Ninjas.

Man, I missed this one because of the PDF that downloaded first. That’ll teach me to not check my feeds properly. Very excited about this :)
